*unsurprised face*

< sarcasm > Gee.. what. a. BIG. Surprise < /sarcasm >

Autism is an exaggerated version of normal behaviour. Not something different. Figures that the genes for it are found in everyone then.

What this does mean is that they've identified the genes that regulate behaviour however.

Yeah exactly. It does lend weight to my self-diagnosis of aspergers, though. Also to the school of thought that ASD is not a disability but rather a different way of thinking. Yanno, geeks.

Also to the anti-A$ "thoughts" that you should not kill ASD kids because they are suffering - just to make parents' lives less difficult and that certain training to make ASD kids more "normal" is actually abuse and so…

Any more scientific weight versus such abuse can only be good.

Autism is a disability because people with sufficient autistic traits are disabled in our current society. At least, that's the way I see it. I get really antsy about denying the disability in autism because we loose our legal right to needed accommodations within the current system.

Sure, a different system would be better than our current system, but we're stuck with the one we have right now.

Maybe, though, the finding of these genes will reduce the narrative that autism is something that Happened to people and therefore can and should UnHappen.

Oh I agree. My gripe is with the system that needs something to be called a disability before accomodations are provided. We are all different and equal. We ALL need different accomodations. Silly system is silly.
