What do you want to be when you grow up? Well, if you're not sure you want to do just one thing for the rest of your life, you're not alone. In this illuminating talk, writer and artist Emilie Wapnick describes the kind of people she calls 'multipotentialites' -- who have a range of interests and jobs over one lifetime. Are you one?

Yes, yes I am.

I have not got around to watching this video yet (and I might be about to fall asleep again) but the tagline quoted here means that I will eventually watch it, later on.

You know, that whole 'one true calling' thing has always bugged me... aside from trying to find it, and chasing after one thing and another... it seems so limiting.

Yeah, I have known for years that I am an often pedantic polymath philomath. My LJ userinfo has said so for years.

A couple of my other posts about this:
I am awesome, even if that is hard to say
"The nerd's guide to learning everything online"

P.S. One great use of insomnia and/or a weird ransom sleep "pattern" is catching up on non-clicked links, open tabs and unwatched TED Talks. I have watched it now.

Hm, had not heard the term Philomath before, although polymath I know and embrace. [you know the Heinlien quote about specialisation is for insects, well, I read it very early on and it had an influence.] Still, it's an apt term for me... learning is something I do for fun it's not work.

I've been told I wanted half a dozen different lives. Little did the person know I wanted more like two dozen. But what I am is a writer.
