Golden girls - sick and tired - Golden Moment

I don't think I saw this episode of the Golden Girls but she nails it. I was treated like that by SO MANY doctors over the years until I was finally diagnosed with MS at age 30.

I have had good doctors, and I have had ones like Dr Bud...my own father is a doctor. I know they're only human, and have bad days same as the rest of us... but yeah, they could all stand to have someone given them that talk. There's something about the profession that breeds or attracts arrogant blow-hards who don't see their patients as people, but as puzzles to be solved so they can show off how clever they are.

Yes, back when I was seeing a neurologist every year for the MS, I only saw the head honcho once before refusing to see him again and switching to see his amazing registrar instead because she had an amazing bedside manner and his was so awful, not listening to me at all and just lecturing me. I have had exactly two good male doctors (one of whom is my current GP) and only ever one awful female doctor who flew off the handle when I said I had worked something out for myself (BSc Biochemistry, a lot of reading and so on) - I do wonder if it is in some way gender-based. Perhaps girls learn more empathy as children than boys (I initially typed "bots"!) do and so make better doctors. Even my current GP can be a little, "I am the doctor!" if I come to him with a theory, but he does at least try to stamp it back and listen to me.

I dunno if it's gender based... but given the gender inequality you have to be a bloody amazing female doctor to stay in the profession. Whereas you know what they call the guy who qualifies bottom of his year? Doctor..same as all the others...
