Waking up with an in visible dagger in my left eye, a splitting weather-head and just in time to see a lightning flash and hear the thunder-clap only a second or two later. I wonder where it struck. I don't think it is raining as yet.

The thunder is doing what it always does here in the Sussex Weald and bouncing around off the North and South Downs (hills ranges), just like snow does (which is why it rarely snows enough to settle in the Weald but rather drops the snow on the hills). 4 seconds between flash and clap that time. I forget what that means as to distance, though.
