In trying to decide whether I prefer cables or twists after watching this video about twisting 2 stitches, I threw together this knitted sampler design.

K 3 rows.

Repeat rows 1-8 for as long as you wish.
K 3 rows and cast off.
Abbreviations (assumes use of cable needle for cables – I do them without a cable needle myself):
c1b = Hold next stitch on a cable needle behind the work, K1, K1 from cable needle.
c1f = Hold next stitch on a cable needle in front of the work, K1, K1 from cable needle.
t2r = k2tog without removing stitches from the left needle, then knit the righthand stitch again and pull both stitches off the left needle.
t2l = knit into the back of the second stitch on the left needle round behind the first st without pulling the stitches off the left needle, then k2tog tbl and pull the 2 stitches off the left needle.
