This fell off my fingertips!

Title: Changing guard?
Challenge/Prompt: none
Fandom: Luther
Characters/Pairings: Luther with mention of Alice
Rating: PG?
Warnings: none
Disclaimer: I don't own Luther or Alice.
Summary: Something unspecified but alluded to happens on the news that Luther guesses might be Alice's doing.
Author's Notes: I was watching a video on YouTube with gameplay footage of Alice: Madness Returns and my earworm has been the theme music from Luther ("Paradise Circus" from "Heligoland" by Massive Attack) ever since we watched Luther last (?) night. Suddenly, this sprung into my mind as a complete scenario and fell off my fingers onto my keyboard.

unedited and exactly as copy/pasted into Scrivener:

They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace -
Christopher Robin went down with Alice.
"Do you think the King knows all about me?"
"Sure to, dear, but it's time for tea,"
Says Alice
- A A Milne, Buckingham Palace

…except Chris could not make it and so Alice had to go on her own. Once John had seen the news on the TV he knew where Alice had been. The carnage implied by the sanitised television footage was more than Luther had imagined one woman could accomplish on her own. Unless she was Alice, of course.

His mobile phone leapt into noisy action as an SMS arrived and then, immediately, a call began to ring. So much for a night off, he thought as he grabbed his coat, car keys and phone, not bothering to answer the latter or read the SMS. He knew what they would be about and he could check them once he arrived at The Mall.

The cordon was where he had expected it to be surrounding the Palace and Horseguards Parade but the officers stationed there recognised him and waved him through when he flashed his ID at them. His notoriety came in useful sometimes. Ever the talk of the Yard he got results, even if his methods were sometimes unorthodox. That said, he was regretting his 'special relationship' with Alice, despite her insight into the minds of the other sociopaths and psychopaths that he chased on a daily basis. No doubt the brass would be watching him closely to see how he handled this.

As he parked the car he checked his phone. The SMS was an auto-message telling him to get back to work and the call was from his boss telling him to watch the news and then get to Horseguards where he would meet him. This was going to be a long night and John could only hope that his slight acquaintance with the working of Alice's mind would help him to track her down whilst working out why she had done what she had done.

Had there been a King instead of a Queen Luther was sure that he would know all about Alice. Her Majesty's household had all been briefed about Alice and the potential risk that she might pose, given her name and her liking for A A Milne, and John was sure that Her Majesty knew all about Alice, despite that no doubt pleasing Alice immensely.

I doubt I will continue with this and it is the first fanfic or otherwise derivative fiction that I have written. I think that I like it.
