[public] I hate K2tog and K3tog

I hate K2tog and K3tog, let alone K2tog tbl and K3tog tbl! Well, for some mad reason, I decided to start knitting a variation on Wendy D Johnson's A Finer Peace Socks which has both K3tog and K3tog tbl in it!

The good news, though, is that I have worked out easier ways of knitting these decreases (and their 2 st counterparts) that do not require me to try to stab my needle through three stitches at once (hence often bending my 2 mm nickel plated 100 cm KnitPro/KnitPicks circular needle!) and I thought I would share these discoveries with you all - well, those of you that are interested in knitting anyway. I am posting this publicly so feel free to link to it or suggest communities that I should post it to.

Anyway, to the methods (which I am sure that I am the last to work out but I may not be and so they may be of interest…):

K3tog:
  1. Slip one st to the right needle.

  2. With that slipped stitch, K1 backwards 1 (i.e. as if you had turned the work and purled one st, which you could do instead and then turn back, I guess). (first st knitted)

  3. Pass the next two stitches on the left needle over the one you have just K backwards. (3 st now knitted together but the st is on the wrong needle)

  4. Slip the st onto the right needle.

K3tog tbl:
  1. Slip 2 st to the right needle purlwise.

  2. K1 tbl. (first st knitted tbl)

  3. Pass the two slipped stitches over the one you have just K tbl. (3 st now knitted together)

Hmmm, maybe I need to do videos. What a pity that I hate my voice. I guess I need to learn how to use iMovie and then I can do captions instead. One day.

1 There are loads of videos on YouTube to show you how to knit backwards (i.e. purl without turning).
