Writer's Block: LiveJournal Book Club

Out of all of your favorite books, pick just one you'd recommend everyone read. As a bonus: why did you pick that one?

"Geeks: How Two Lost Boys Rode the Internet Out of Idaho" by Jon Katz. The first time I read this I finally felt 'at home' - the book talked about people just like me and I was no longer alone!

If it has to be a book I really *enjoyed* reading and that everyone ought to, then Samuel Butler's translation of the Iliad. If it's merely a book that everyone ought to read regardless of enjoyment, then Gibbon's "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire", or Machiavelli's "Il Principe", both of which are essential for an understanding of why the world is the way it is.
