I love these pinwheel patterns!

This pattern has taken more than one ball of yarn and so I either need to make it in more than one colourway or find a colour that I have more than one ball and start again.

I love the ombre yarn because I can see how it was made. Nice dishcloth!

nice - it reminds me of a Colleen Davis pinwheel pattern using short rows; she uses a different colour for each 'leaf' of the pinwheel

Yes I have seen a cloth knitted like that. They actually specified an ombre/variegated/self-striping yarn for this cloth this month and, although I liked it when I knit itin the past in natural/undyed, it does show the structure off well like this.

I couldn't find any pictures of her pinwheel online - it was part of one of her freestyle knitting jackets in Belle Armoire - but looking for it led me to a pinwheel circular jacket and looking for the pattern for that led me to a pinwheel baby blanket pattern on Ravelry, which lots of folks knit up in variegated yarn. Especially sock yarn for crib sizes ;)

I think that this one has been done in more than one colour as you describe - actually I might try that.

that looks similar - I'll grab a photo of it if you like (it's the basis of a jacket ;)

I am assuming this is in a book. If you tell me the ISBN, title and author(s) I can get the library to order it for me.

A magazine - Belle Armoire from Stampington, November 2009 ;) it's possible it's in her Freeform Knitting book but I've not found a copy yet.
took a quick snap of the page - there are two or three pinwheels in the jacket back

This is her designer page on Ravelry:
http://www.ravelry.com/designers/colleen-davis

her normal rav page:
http://www.ravelry.com/people/ColleenDavis

and this is the page for the book:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/to-boldly-knit

Looking at the designs listed as in the book:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/to-boldly-knit/patterns

it does not look like it is in there. To be honest it looks like she just knits and the jacket evolves as she knits - true freeform knitting.

ETA: Ah, found a pic! The Magenta Circles jacket on her Art Wear page on her website:

Yes, they are pretty much all freeform, out of specific units - the pinwheel being one. I'm doing something rather like her gingko leaf wrap ;)

And I have no idea why my phone posted that previous comment twice. Maybe because it had two pictures ;)
